World Vision is a Christian global humanitarian organization. We are the largest, non-governmental provider of clean water in the developing world, reaching a new person with clean water every 10 seconds! Efforts include innovative projects like building and maintaining wells, solar-powered pumps, pipelines, dams and rain catchments. World Vision’s water projects also focus on improved sanitation and hygiene solutions. This includes building latrines and organizing communities to implement good habits like hand-washing or repairing wells.
Nearly 800 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. But we believe the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetimes. The 2023 World Vision Canada Global 6K for Water will be benefiting a water project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Six kilometers is the average distance a person in the developing world must walk to find water that is often unsafe to drink. By participating in this event, you are walking/running that distance so they don’t have to.
Our biggest piece of advice is to KEEP IT SIMPLE! Try to find a nearby park or a loop near your home. It is best to find a 6K loop (or even a 3K loop that you can do twice), maybe even a high school track. Keep it simple so you can put most of the focus on impact and having a great experience on event day! Please ensure you obey all traffic laws during your event.
T-shirts will be distributed to those who raise a minimum of $50 on their personal fundraising page by May 1st.
If you are participating as part of a church or corporation, t-shirts will be shipped to your church or corporation for pick-up. If you are participating on your own, your t-shirt will be shipped to your home. T-shirt shipments can only be guaranteed for individuals that have signed up and raised $50 by May 1st.
No cost! In 2023, we are waiving the registration fee again to make this event accessible to all families and communities! However, we do encourage all participants to fundraise. Just $50 helps provide life-changing clean water to one person through World Vision’s water projects. To receive the official 2023 Global 6K shirt, participants will need to raise a minimum of $50 by May 1st.
Yes! We encourage families and children to participate in this event together. Children of all ages can register as a participant to walk or run the 6K. If your child is not independently walking/running the 6K (i.e. they’re being carried or pushed in a stroller), they do not need to register.
