Your Impact

Over the last few years, Team World Vision has raised over $2.3 million to help improve the lives of thousands of people in the region of Menkao, Democratic Republic of Congo! Through our collective efforts, we’ve been able to support a number of communities within the region, improving their access to clean water and fostering positive change.

As the Menkao water project is entering its final phase, this year we are expanding the reach of Global 6K to support water projects in Zambia that are already underway to reach 5,000 more people with clean water.

Every $50 you raise through the Global 6K helps transform a person's life through clean, safe water.

Your support directly contributes to transformative actions on the ground, ensuring that individuals and families have access to this essential resource, improving health outcomes, and enhancing overall well-being.

Progress to Date

Since 2017, World Vision has been working to improve the lives of girls and boys in Menkao by ensuring their families and communities have access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and good hygiene practices. Here’s what’s been done so far:

  • The water supply project provided two villages 14km away with access to clean water.
  • Water pipes have been laid to connect the central Menkao village to the water supply.
  • Two concrete storage tanks have been constructed, each equipped with four connection points.
  • Three taps have been installed along with a solar pumping system to enhance energy efficiency.
  • Since prioritizing household access to drinking water in 2017, our 2022 evaluation showed a 56% increase in access to drinking water in the program area.

What Still Needs to be Done

While water access has improved considerably in Menkao, this year we look forward to bringing water points even closer to community members. World Vision is aiming to reduce the distance people travel to reach water sources to less than 500 metres and ensure that the time it takes to collect 20 litres of water, does not exceed 30 minutes.

To achieve this, World Vision plans to construct eight water points throughout the area by the end of 2025. This will ensure that 2,182 households in Menkao, including 5,912 children, have reliable access to clean drinking water for years to come.

What's New

Since the Menkao water project is entering its final phase, this year we are expanding the reach of Global 6K to support water projects in Zambia.

The Zambia Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Program was launched in 2008 to help improve health, nutrition and education outcomes through universal access to sustainable and safely managed WASH services.

In the last few years, World Vision has made immense progress in improving clean water access in Zambia. Our hope is that by directing some of the Global 6K funds here, we can help finish the life-changing work that has started.

Since 2021, the following has been accomplished:

  • 764,242 people have been provided with access to clean water
  • 317 schools have gained access to clean water on their premises (achieving 91% of the five-year goal)
  • 140 healthcare clinics have been reached with piped water in their facilities

This year, World Vision will begin working with local water utility companies to complete two large systems in two communities – Manyinga and Luswepo. These systems will reach more than 5,000 people through 800 metered household connections.

Together with the government of Zambia, local partners, and donors like you, we can provide lasting clean water to approximately 1 million people in Zambia.
