Why Hunger?

In the last three years, the number of people facing extreme hunger doubled to nearly 258 million people.

Global hunger has increased sharply since 2020, reversing decades of progress. This is due to the combined impact of various conflicts, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic. As of April 2022, the World Food Programme estimates that nearly half of all deaths among children under five are caused by hunger. Many poor farmers can't grow enough food to even feed their own families, let alone provide food for communities who rely on their farms. This inability to produce and sell food results in reduced income that has cascading effects on essentials like education and healthcare. That's why World Vision partners with communities to address their immediate food needs, but also equips them to produce their own food sustainably for the long-term.
