Did you know that there are still 663 million people that don't have access to this clean water? And a staggering 2.4 billion people - one third of the world's population - lack access to proper sanitation? Every day, nearly 1,000 children under the age of five die because of a combination of poor water, inadequate sanitation and a lack of hygiene. All things that are preventable.

World Vision believes that every child deserves a strong, vibrant, and healthy life, and providing clean water is the crucial first step that enables children to thrive and achieve this goal.

Of Zambia's 18 million citizens, 2 in every 5 people still lack access to clean water. In Ethiopia, the situation is similar, with only 31% of its people having safe access to this precious resource.

Together with the government in Zambia and Ethiopia, local partners and donors like you, World Vision can provide lasting clean water to 2.6 million people in  these countries. World Vision staff, along with community health workers, are teaching communities the importance of having household sanitation facilities and the need for healthy hygiene practices, which is more critical than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the world's poorest countries.

Community members contribute time and labour to build and manage their water systems, adding to the sustainability of the water projects and providing a sense of ownership. Communities will be empowered to maintain and expand the water, sanitation and hygiene programs and practices providing clean water for generations to come!
